Choosing the Correct Keywords to Be Successful with Article Marketing

by Will Dizon

When you're making any recipe, you need to make sure that you put the ingredients in, in the order specified. If you skipped over an ingredient then the recipe would not turn out as well as what it should. As an example, if you are baking cookies and decided not to use flour in the recipe, you would be unhappy with how they turn out. This is also true when you are using the correct ingredients that are called out in the recipe. If you were to put all of the ingredients into those cookies but then decided to use butter instead of sugar the cookies would turn out horrible and certainly nobody would eat them. This is also true when we are writing articles. If we don't start out with the proper ingredients, the key words, then they will be ruined and you can't get anybody to read them.

Going down through the list of ingredients that go into a successful article we first see the proper keywords. If anybody is going to be able to find your article then it has to be positioned on the search engines in such a way that people can find it. For this reason it is more complex than writing an article that is themed well in order for you to be successful with your article marketing efforts. You need to start out with good keyword research and then create your articles using those keywords so that they will be listed well in search engines. But how do you find the proper type of keywords for your articles?

Let's use as an example an article that we will write about gardening. It might be tempting to use keywords such as vegetable gardening or flower gardening as our main keywords but if you check Google using those keywords you will soon find out that you are competing against far too many other websites. Yes, you might be listed for these keywords, but you'll be on page 300 where nobody will see you. What is necessary to do is to find longer keyword phrases that will be able to pull in traffic that is interested in what you have to offer. These keywords will have to be searched for but not be too competitive in the search engines. Many people call these types of keyword phrases long tail.

In order to find long tailed keyword phrases it is necessary to research using one of the popular SEO research tools that are available on the Internet. Some of the most popular of these tools are overture and also a service known as Wordtracker. My personal favorite is Wordtracker, they offer a free service but you get much more if you purchase the paid service. When you use these tools, you will discover long tailed keyword phrases that are actually being searched for by people in the search engines. By using the example we had earlier of gardening, you might be able to find such keyword phrases as "planting a vegetable garden" or "Rose Garden tips". Because these phrases have a lot less competition, it will be easier for you to rank highly in Google and the other search engines.

If you want to write good articles then you need to use great keywords. You can't skip over the step of researching your keywords. By doing this research in advance and then writing your articles surrounding those particular keyword phrases, they will be found in the search engines and people will land on your article pages. In this way you will be able to get the traffic to your website that is comprised of people that actually want your product or service. Just make sure that you use all of the ingredients and use them in their proper order and people will enjoy the articles that you bake up.
