Bored Readers Don’t Turn Into Customers

Occasionally, when I get really lazy, I would hop onto some article directories, pluck out a couple of interesting articles and paste it on my websites as updates. I know, I know. Lazy me. Guilty as charged. After all that talk about how easy it is for me as a freelance writer, about how this freelance writer can whip up just about anything in a matter of minutes….blah blah blah.
So, yes, I do that. I publish others’ articles on my websites and give them credit for it too.
Of late, article marketing, I realize have spun out of control. You see, the way I see it, the articles that I find on these article directories have become so boring that I do consider some of them complete rubbish! Harsh? Yeah, I would say so. And that’s because as a freelance writer, I spend heckuva lot of time making sure the stuff that I write and produce to my clients are top class stuff! It’s a pain in the rear end, trust me on this one….in more ways than one, actually. That’s why it’s disheartening to find that some writers have found out that they can actually string some words together, make some sense to the readers of the articles and consider themselves freelance writers.
What’s worse is that some of the people posting the articles into these websites are not even writers to begin with! What they are capable of doing is to put some words together between keywords. Here, let me give you an example.
Keywords, let’s assume….would be piano and lessons.
So, the freelance writer would put piano and lessons together in the same sentence by writing something like this.
“Piano playing can be learned with lessons”
Er…..duh??????
Or let’s try another example.
Keywords would be rich, business and home business.
The freelance writer would try to put the words into a sentence like this…..
“In order to get rich, you have to start a business as a home business”
I can’t even begin to tell you how frustrated I get when I see that. Why? Because I take pride in my work as a freelance writer, and when I see people doing that, I get pissed off! What sense does it make? Where’s the point? How interesting is that? Why would people want to read on? Why would people want to buy anything, start anything when they read something like that?
Listen, the job of a freelance writer, when they’re commissioned to write for their clients is to produce articles. The purpose of the articles is to bring in sales….not to be strung together like a bunch of bananas! If I want bananas, I know where to find them. On trees….and the grocery store, of course. Where’s the point in publishing boring articles that barely make sense when no one’s going to be interested in publishing them in their websites (which is the whole point, to begin with). And even if some people decided to put the free content up that your freelance writer has produced for you in their website, why would your clients/customers be convinced that you’re the one for them?
So, do yourself, your business and your integrity a favor by hiring only good freelance writers. I am not saying that I am the best freelance writer in the world because my caliber pale in comparison to many, many, MANY others in the world but I would encourage you, urge you, plead with you to go with someone who would at least put some effort to spice up your articles for you.
Bored readers don’t become clients or customers, remember that!
