When Women Are Wrongly Aroused For The Wrong Reason

No PG13 sign here….this article, we’re talking about how easy it is for women to be aroused and it’s got nothing to do with the nether regions…or well, the upper regions as well. It’s got to do a whole lot more about the clock and how we are aroused by the mere sight of it.

I used to be easily aroused by the sight of the ticking clock, the closer it gets to a particular time, I get all excited and start sweating. The issue that I am broaching today is the 24/7 condition or the workaholic syndrome. Awww….don’t be disappointed because I’ve got an extremely important point to make here.

women emotional health arousal mental psychologyWomen, unfortunately, were made to be more susceptible to pressure and stress because it’s common knowledge (unless you’re the few lucky ones who don’t fit into this category) that women are more inclined towards putting the needs of others ahead of our own. The scrapes and bruises on our kids’ knees or fingers warrants 150% attention while the daily erosion on our emotions and sense of well-being can be ignored for months, years….sometimes even for a lifetime! The seemingly urgent needs of our spouses and kids becomes the main focus of our energy and the moment they need something done, we drop everything that’s important to ‘us’ for them. Our mothers, in fact, or sisters are also important parts of our lives. I had a friend who gave up a long queue when she was trying to get her VISA done because her sister’s cat ran out of the gate and she needs help trying to find the cat.

More importantly, our work can become a life-diminisher as well. Here, I am referring not only to our career but also our work as a hamster-cage-cleaner, cats or dogs bather, bed linen changer, cup washer and teeth-brusher.

Think about it for a minute here because I think it’s important for women to consider ditching the 24/7 attitude…to forget about being there for every whim and fancy of others around us. I read in a recent issue of Reader’s Digest that everyone, including women, should take care of our own emotional and psychological health because we tend to drop everything that we’re doing, including right before bedtime, to tend to the needs of others!

The article reminds me that I need at least an hour before actually nodding off to do something that I want to do, like to do or something that I’ve not made time for. Like reading or knitting or watching my favorite television series. As minute as they sound, it makes a whole world of difference. Some of us, me included, are usually contemplating chores, finishing up the washing, folding laundry or giving last minute calls to friends to dump our grievances on them right before we sleep. We could be crying on the phone with mom because our husband’s are not back or we could still be discussing tomorrow’s pitching with our colleague at 12.30am.

In order for women to have a more fulfilling life, we need to save that one hour right before bedtime to do something that we really want to do…not including obliging sex to our partner. Have the sex then reclaim that one hour to ourselves! It sounds so simple and stupid even when I am the one who’s doing the writing because what sense is there?

Arousal….that’s what I am going to get back into. The one hour before bedtime is to let our bodies discontinue the state of arousal. Sex is great for sleep and a wakeful mind so do it if it’s really what you want to do. But this is just about the only form of arousal allowed right before bedtime.

So, even if you have to keep a knife beside your bed to ward off loved ones, keep all forms of arousal at bay for at least an hour before bedtime so that you can truly feel who you are, what you are, think about what you’ve done and basically, reconnect with who you are in a very complete sense so that life is not about everyone else. For that one hour, life is all about you once again.
