Turning Into A Website Mascot

I’ve just got a website revamp and this time round, I’ve decided to post my face all around my website…the booteeffool, the kute and the totally arglee ones are there. There’s a reason to this (it’s not because I want to be a celebrity….oh, purleez! I don’t mind, though). I have decided to make me my own mascot.
Online branding exercise – it’s all in the name of Business Online marketing
Before this, I’ve decided to use a really generic website design (a bland one) for my personal website to do the business online marketing. It worked, I’m not saying it didn’t. But the market, the internet market, has become so competitive these days that suddenly, there’s a drastic need for a change in my online branding exercise and plan. It’s no longer enough for my business and website to be generic.
Business online marketing on the internet these days entails a lot of branding, building trust, being transparent and be truly…genuine. How else do you think someone’s going to trust you with his/her money for your products/services? This is what business online marketing is all about, my friends. You’ve got to make yourself visible.
Business Online marketing through the website, making it personal
The best type of internet marketing for a website is by personalizing it. Let me give you a very good example. Would you prefer to buy something from someone you know is for real or would you rather purchase something from a website that is completely faceless and you’ve no idea whether this is some nine-year-old kid’s joke on the adults all over the world?
That’s right! You’ve answered it yourself (I hope you did not pick the nine-year-old) – you’d rather purchase something from a website that belongs to someone or a company that you know, for sure, exists! That is also why, in your business online marketing plan, it should include some ‘personalizing’ as well.
How to work a business online marketing for a business
Marketing my own website or blog was easy. I am me. I market me. I turn myself into one big goon, call myself the ‘crazy freelance writer’ and then make funny faces and post it all over my facebook account…and viola! I’ve managed to pull a business online marketing strategy for myself.
But what happens if you’re a business owner? That’s kind of tricky but I’ve got a few tricks for you here.
- Threaten the receptionist that you’ll fire her unless she allows you to put HER face on the company website’s blog and calls it ‘Margaret’s mad diary in XYX company’
- Bring in one of your sales persons and call him the ‘marketing guru of the millennium’ and send him for a three-month crash course on marketing and make him post articles every day in the company’s blog
- Buy a dog (or cat) (or hamster) and turn the poor little thing into the company mascot and put up a sub-site on the company’s website and call it ‘Meow talk’ or ‘Woof talk’ or…er…what sound does a hamster make?
- Or you can simply put up a really professional business blog about your products and services, get a writer or your PR personnel to put something really nice about your products/services in the blog or website three times a week. The post could even be about something RELATED to the industry…that works too.
You get the point, don’t you? Part of the business online marketing strategy is to put together a personality that people can identify with. Like, Bob Parson of Godaddy. Right now, his name is everywhere, his face is all over the place and he’s doing the Business Online marketing just right!
In the blogosphere, no one knows who godaddy is but they sure as hell know who Bob Parson is. He’s started his own VideoLog (vlog) too these days and it’s been a big fat hit. I am not saying that I am anything like Bob Parson (doesn’t hurt to wish, though) but we’re doing the same thing, following the same rules, aren’t we?
And you sit there wondering why your own business online marketing strategy isn’t working, huh?
Listen, Bob Parson’s making so much money from godaddy that he’s probably stuffs his mattresses up with loose change. Why would he want to make the effort to post his pictures, write his own blog, and record his own video to connect with his customers?
Personality, like I said.
So, if you want your online marketing plan for your business website to work, it’s time to put some personality into it.
