Simple SEO Exercise For Free Blogs

So, you’re sitting there, twiddling your thumb….checking your empty stats for the hundredth time that day wondering…what in the world is going on? Aren’t people (and spiders) supposed to be clamoring all over themselves just to get to your website by now? You’ve submitted your website to all the search engines and directories…and it was tedious, so….now what?
Instantly high traffic? Sadly, this is not the case – will never be so, in case you did not get my drift. Search engine marketing and online promotion takes a lot of work but it’s THE CHEAPEST and MOST EFFECTIVE form of advertising. It’s free if you do everything from A to Z on your own, by the way, but most business people really have no time to learn the B to Y of internet marketing…and that, hee hee hee….leaves room for people like us, of course.
Today, a cousin of mine asked me a question and I’ve decided to be nice and share something with bloggers to help with their traffic.
How do you promote your website or free blog to search engines when you’re not in control over what’s going on in those codes? The ‘free’ part of using a free blog platform limits you in that way but there are things you can focus on to bring attention to your blog posts. And here are some.
The title of the article…use your keywords. Some of you may not know this so, I’ll repeat it. Try not to use keywords that are too general. For very obvious reasons, the competition is too high for one-word general keywords like ‘books’, ‘clothes’ or ‘pacifiers’. Combine other keywords in your title. Like ‘romance books’ or ‘romance fiction novels’ or ‘cheap romance book download’. Use it in the title of your blog post.
So, an example of a good SEO blog post title is….A Knight’s Passion – romance novel download’.
First paragraph, use the keyword at least one time but don’t overdo it. It all depends on how long your first paragraph is so, pan it out and remember to make it sensible.
Throughout the blog post of about 100-200 words, use the keywords 3-5 times and in that particular order. Find some way to insert the keywords in so that it makes sense. It’s hard, I know, but you can cleverly insert the combination keyword into a sentence by ‘cheating’ with commas, semi-colons, full stops…etc.
Even if it’s a picture blog post, write something simple. Forget about digging into your dictionary or using bombastic words…just write something simple, preferably from the heart. The fantastic thing about writing a blog post is that people already EXPECT you to be honest and true and very personal…that works to your advantage so, use it!
Insert your tags!!! I cannot emphasize this enough….DON’T SKIP THE TAGS! If you’re using free blog platforms, insert relevant tags into the blog post because it will be reflected and used by search engines to rank your blog and blog post. If you’re posting up a post about handbags, remember to place your tags into it, e.g. women clutch bags, cheap designer bags, handbag post, women’s bag, etc.
Bookmark the blog posts….with delicious, digg, stumbleupon, facebook, twitter…..whatever network that you’re on. Spread the message and get others to help you spread the word too. This is one of the fastest ways to get the eyeballs that you’ve been vying for.
So, good luck! Don’t let others tell you that you can get traffic when you use free blog platforms. In fact, there’s a slight advantage (if you know how to manipulate it) in using blogger because…ahem, you know the relationship between blogger and Google, don’t you?
Well, ‘nuff said. Good luck! :-)
