If Michael Jordan Needed Help, So Do You
By Marsha Maung

I am not intentionally manipulating the famous basketball player’s name but I am trying to emphasize a point here and I need to use someone really big and SUCCESSFUL as an example. I remember in one interview, the interviewer was unloading praise upon praise on Michael Jordan for performing so well, giving Chicago Bulls their xxxth win. The humble and extraordinary basketball player took the compliments gracefully and then added, “I couldn’t have done it without Pippens and Rodman”.
So, if someone as extraordinarily great as Michael Jordan can admit that he couldn’t have gone as far without his mates, what makes you think that the difficult journey we call ’life’ is yours and yours alone to travel?
I have to admit that I pushed myself to the limit at one point in time, refusing to back down or beg for help because I believed that I can do it alone. I don’t need help and asking for help is a weakness or at least showing others that I was weak. Of course, till today, I still believe that I can do ANYTHING alone if I put my heart into it – I have the confidence and you probably do as well. But the question is….should you?
It brings me to one point – love. God created and linked each and every one of us and we call each other friends and family. All of us share a bond which we call love. Love is there for a reason – not limited to the couple-love and it’s so that we can each reach our individual potential as quickly and in the most enjoyable way possible.
For instance, if you have decided to start a bakery business and you’ve you’re going to do this alone, you’re confident that you can do it – you don’t need help. But is it worth the fight when you could have gotten someone in to do the mixing or manning the counter? Why make the journey that much harder for yourself when you can reach out? Asking for help is not a ‘weakness’, it’s a ‘strength’. In fact, I would go as far as to say that the smart people always ask for help…in the business world, we call it leveraging on others.
It’s the same thing for life. We should never attempt to try climbing the mountain alone. Reach out to friends, family and others so because that’s what they’re there for. There’s no guilt involved because we all do it, help others, out of the love and bond that we share.
So, do yourself a favor today….reach out to someone you love so that you can reach your full potential.
